From 1965 to 1999, he served as head of the cracking reactor design group and lead specialist for Exxon. He invented and co-developed over 90 percent of Exxon’s cracking reactor technology. He co-invented two low-resident-time cracking coil designs that significantly improved ethylene production (a major component in plastics). These designs are the premier designs used by Exxon today. He invented low NOx (flue gas recirculation burners) to meet EPA requirements He also co-invented a device that permits cracking heavy garbage feeds containing high asphaltites. Many of these developments are kept as Exxon trade secrets. Art has over twenty US patents. He won the Exxon’s Most Valuable Patent award twice.. He received the Marquis Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award for his engineering accomplishments.

Traveling around the country every weekend racing and his very frequent trouble shooting trips around the world to solve EXXON’s problems put too much strain on his marriage and ended in a divorce.. Art tried to get back together but they just could not get along and parted ways again. Things were very amiable between them and they shared custody of their two boys. Quite by accident several years after his accident Art met his current wife. They have been happily married for over 40 years.

Art had always dreamed of being able to fly like the birds. After several attempts of jumping off a mountain using a kite like sail and crashing he got his pilot’s license and built an experimental airplane.

1987 Art moved to Texas and resumed working as a Lead Engineer for Exxon in their cracking reactor group. After retirement from EXXON in 1999 he started his own engineering consulting company., Art has served as a consultant for several major oil/chemical company’s In 1999, after retiring from Exxon he started his own engineering consulting company. He solved numerous problems with their existing cracking reactors and solved a flameout problem to prevent a major explosion in a plant that was having problems with their low NOx burners. Consulting for Knighthawk Engineering he developed a system to convert waste streams to clean hydrogen and carbon monoxide and destroy PFAS, a cancer-causing chemical in drinking water He also bought American Offshore Power Boat Company. He developed the hydrodynamic/aerodynamic and structural design for three high-performance boats that are being built by his company. He designed and won approximately thirty races. He won every race at the Lake Of The Ozarks world renowned boat race between 2006 to 2019 with a speed of approximately 140 MPH and The Texas Outlaw Challenge shootout race every year from 2009.to 2025.
